How To Get Out of Bed in the Morning To Exercise
Getting out of bed in the morning to exercise can be a challenge, especially when you have not gotten enough sleep the night before. If you find yourself sleeping in and missing your workouts too often, make a concrete plan to get yourself to bed on time, out of the sack in the morning and into the gym. According to Dr. Susan Zafarlotfi, director of Hackensack University's Institute for Sleep/Wake Disorders, the key is to find the physical cues that make you feel awake and alert.
Step 1
Go to bed on time. If eight hours of sleep is the magic number for you, refrain from watching one last TV show or checking one last website at night. Crawl into bed exactly eight hours before you need to get up.
Step 2
Keep the blinds open at night. You can regulate your biological clock with light exposure, so let the sunrise do its job and ease you into alertness.
Step 3
Place your alarm clock across the room so that you have to get up to turn it off. Once you're out of bed, the battle's half-won. Now you just have to put on your sneakers.
Step 4
Lay out your exercise clothes beside your alarm clock. As soon as you turn off the alarm, get dressed to work out.
Step 5
Enlist a friend to be your exercise buddy. You'll be less likely to skip working out if you know someone is depending on you to show up.
